چکیده

Superconductivity induced structures in the electronic Raman spectra of high-Tc superconductors are computed using the results of ab initio LDA-LMTO three-dimensional band structure calculations via numerical integrations of the mass fluctuations, either in the whole 3D Brillouin zone or limiting the integrations to the Fermi surface. The results of both calculations are rather similar, the Brillouin zone integration yielding additional weak structures related to the extended van Hove singularities. Similar calculations have been performed for the normal state of these high-Tc cuprates. Polarization configurations have been investigated and the results have been compared to experimental spectra. The assumption of a simple dx2−y2 -like gap function allows us to explain a number of experimental features but is hard to reconcile with the relative positions of the A1g and B1g peaks.

Collective spin fluctuation mode and Raman scattering in superconducting cuprates

Although the low-frequency electronic Raman response in the superconducting state of the cuprates can be largely understood in terms of a d-wave energy gap, a long-standing problem has been an explanation for the spectra observed in the A1g polarization orientations. We present calculations which suggest that the peak position of the observed A1g spectra is due to a collective spin fluctuation ...

Collective Modes and Electronic Raman Scattering in the Cuprates

In spite of the considerable efforts to explain the experimental Raman spectra of cuprate superconductors, the A1g superconducting response is not yet completely understood. It has been shown that the theoretical description of the A1g Raman response was very sensitive to small changes in the Raman vertex harmonic representations, yielding peak positions varying between ∆ and 2∆ [1]. However, t...

Observation of a three-dimensional quasi-long-range electronic supermodulation in YBa2Cu3O7−x/La0.7Ca0.3MnO3 heterostructures

Recent developments in high-temperature superconductivity highlight a generic tendency of the cuprates to develop competing electronic (charge) supermodulations. While coupled with the lattice and showing different characteristics in different materials, these supermodulations themselves are generally conceived to be quasi-two-dimensional, residing mainly in individual CuO2 planes, and poorly c...

Resonant Raman scattering in mercurate single crystals

We report resonant electronic Raman scattering in optimally doped single layer HgBa2CuO4+δ (Hg-1201) and trilayer HgBa2Ca2Cu3O8+δ (Hg-1223) single crystals. Analysis of the B1g and B2g channels in the superconducting state of Hg-1201 advocates for a gap having d-wave symmetry. In addition a resonant study B1g pair-breaking peak and the A1g peak suggests that the A1g peak is not directly related...

Inelastic Light Scattering from Correlated Electrons

Inelastic light scattering is an intensively used tool in the study of electronic properties of solids. Triggered by the discovery of high temperature superconductivity in the cuprates and by new developments in instrumentation, light scattering both in the visible (Raman effect) and the X-ray part of the electromagnetic spectrum has become a method complementary to optical (infrared) spectrosc...
